Privacy Policy
Earthquake HQ is provided by Okroshka Lab ("Earthquake HQ", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Earthquake HQ on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, widgets, maps, notifications, the earthquake diary, and SOS features.
1. Information We Process
- Location: precise location when you grant permission, used for nearby sorting, distance calculations, maps, SOS context, widgets, monitored locations, and relevant earthquake alerts.
- Push notification data: APNs device token, notification preferences, thresholds, radius settings, selected earthquake source, language, measurement and time formats, timezone, and monitored location configurations.
- Diary content: saved earthquakes, favorites, felt status, notes, and deletion records used for optional iCloud sync.
- Subscription information: Free or Pro entitlement status supplied by Apple StoreKit. Apple processes payment details.
- Earthquake requests: event identifiers, coordinates, map regions, or bounds needed to request information from public earthquake providers.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to provide earthquake feeds, maps, distance and risk calculations, SOS context, widgets, diary synchronization, subscription features, and notifications configured by the user. We also use limited operational data to secure and maintain notification delivery.
3. Storage and Retention
Settings and diary content are stored on the device. When iCloud is available, diary data may synchronize through Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. The notification backend stores APNs registration and preferences needed to send alerts. Invalid device tokens and delivery records may be removed as part of normal maintenance. Diary entries remain until the user deletes them.
4. Service Providers and Data Sources
Earthquake HQ uses Apple services including APNs, iCloud, MapKit, geocoding, StoreKit, widgets, Watch connectivity, and system diagnostics. It obtains earthquake information from providers including USGS, EMSC, and GEOFON. Cloudflare infrastructure is used for the notification backend. These providers may receive network information such as an IP address, request time, and request parameters under their own policies.
5. Data Sharing
We disclose information only as needed to operate the requested features, comply with law, protect users and the service, or complete a business transfer. We do not sell personal data and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Your Controls
You can disable location or notifications in iOS Settings, change notification preferences in the app, edit monitored locations, delete diary entries, disable iCloud where supported, and manage subscriptions through Apple. To request access, correction, or deletion of backend data, contact us using the address below.
7. Security and International Processing
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS in transit and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, subject to applicable legal safeguards.
8. Children
Earthquake HQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.
9. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the app, providers, or legal requirements. The date at the top identifies the latest version.
